Today at noon, Canada Post closed the Vic West postal outlet inside Pharmasave Westside, ending 16 years of uninterrupted service to our growing community.
CTV News was onsite to document the closure and hear directly from residents and staff.
Despite multiple appeals to Canada Post executives, the Board of Directors and the responsible Minister, no one has offered a clear explanation for why a cost-neutral, revenue-generating postal outlet was shut down.
Throughout this process, every silence has been met with further escalation. We first reached out to Canada Post’s local management and our MP, Will Greaves, who was the only federal representative to meet with us. While he eventually wrote to the CEO of Canada Post, his letter, addressing four closures across his riding, fell short of demanding accountability for this decision or transparency from the corporation.
From there, we raised the issue directly with the CEO, Board of Directors, Minister Joël Lightbound, the Prime Minister, the Opposition Leader, and the official opposition critics overseeing Canada Post. When no answers came, we filed a formal Access to Information Act request for the decision records, still pending to this day.
This campaign began under the title “Stop the Closure of the Vic West Postal Outlet,” which gathered over 1,000 signatures in just four weeks. It showed that Vic West residents, small businesses and postal workers all stand together in calling for answers. Today, as the outlet stands closed, we continue under a new name:
“Hold Canada Post Accountable for Shutting Down Outlets, Profitable to the Corporation”
Because this is no longer about one outlet; it’s about transparency and accountability in a Crown corporation that operates with taxpayer support, yet refuses to explain decisions that hurt communities and undermine its own financial stability.
📢 Please continue to share and sign the petition.
Every signature strengthens the case for transparency and ensures this issue cannot simply disappear with the closure of our local post office.
