Petition updateCanada Post Closure of Vic West Outlet Under Federal Investigation – Add Your NameCanada Post Doubles Down — Still No Answers, One Week Left to Save Vic West’s Post Office

Dear neighbours and supporters,

Over the past month, our community has spoken loud and clear: the planned closure of the Vic West postal outlet on October 28 is unacceptable. Despite that, Canada Post’s leadership continues to avoid accountability.

This week, we received a short reply from Rod Hart, Canada Post’s Chief Customer and Marketing Officer, who stated that the Corporation’s decision to close our outlet is “final.” He offered no explanation for the reasoning behind this decision, no evidence of any financial or service-based justification, and no answers to the specific questions raised in our Open Letter to the Chair of the Board of Directors, André Hudon.

Mr. Hart’s response also ignored our formal request for disclosure of the decision record, policy criteria, and service-impact analysis for Vic West, information that, by law, should be available to the public under the Access to Information Act.

Meanwhile, Canada Post has already begun preparing for closure, even though this matter remains before the Minister responsible, the Board of Directors and the public.

Despite Canada Post’s silence, our community is louder than ever. In just a few days since our last update, the petition has surged from 680 to over 950 signatures. Residents, small businesses, and postal workers alike are standing together to oppose a decision that harms both the community and the Crown corporation itself. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has also voiced concern and called for accountability.

As stated in our previous letters:

Any cooperation we provide related to the planned closure will be under protest and without prejudice, pending the outcome of ongoing oversight requests and public review.

Now, with only a week left before the scheduled closure, we need everyone’s help to increase the pressure on Canada Post and federal officials.

Please take a moment to send a short email (you can copy all recipients at once) urging them to suspend the closure and review this decision properly.
