Thank you to everyone who continues to support this campaign. We’ve now passed 500 signatures, and the movement continues to grow.
In the past week, we met with our local MP Will Greaves to press for federal attention to the planned closure of our Vic West postal outlet. Mr. Greaves has committed to bringing these concerns forward to Minister Joël Lightbound, who oversees Canada Post.
This comes after a formal response from the Prime Minister’s Office, confirming that the issue has been referred to the Minister for review.
Earlier this week, we reached out again to Minister Joël Lightbound. In our latest correspondence, we’ve asked the Minister to review how Canada Post is deciding which outlets to close, and to suspend the closure of our Vic West postal outlet (scheduled for October 28) until a transparent, evidence-based review is completed.
As a reminder, Canada Post has admitted this closure is not about costs or performance.
Our outlet is cost-neutral and revenue-generating for Canada Post, yet it’s being shut down under what they call “network management”, a phrase that leaves out the very people Canada Post is meant to serve.
Meanwhile, Global News aired a new report on this issue last Sunday, adding to previous coverage by CTV News, CFAX Radio, and the Times Colonist. The strong public interest and media attention underscore how important this postal outlet is to our growing community.
Next week, after Thanksgiving, we’ll release an open letter to the Chair of the Canada Post Board of Directors, calling for suspension of the planned closure, full disclosure of the closure policy and an explanation of why profitable, community-serving outlets are being eliminated while the corporation faces major financial challenges.
👉 Please keep sharing this petition with your friends and neighbours. The more signatures we gather, the harder it becomes for Canada Post’s leadership to ignore the public’s voice.
Thank you again for standing up for your community!
