Fur Hood Ornaments, Canada Goose's Sustainable Growth, & Wall Street.

Fur Hood Ornaments, Canada Goose's Sustainable Growth, & Wall Street.

The Issue

Canada Goose claims that the fur trim for their coats is made with "wild animals that are trapped humanely." Here in New York City, and many other cities around the globe, this fur is a FUR HOOD ORNAMENT. Humane trapping being an oxymoron notwithstanding, no wild animal population can sustain itself in a market of 8 billion people who will sport a FUR HOOD ORNAMENT.  The reason for FUR HOOD ORNAMENTS and FUR HAT ORNAMENTS?  Prevent frostbite.  Most of us and our hats do not face frostbite.

Your company is publicly traded. You have to satisfy Wall Street every quarter.  Every year. Every decade. Forever. If Tim Cook slips too many quarters at Apple, he will be replaced. You must lead your company to make a profit. For the life of your company, every quarter, every year, every decade, you must sell more and/or pay less for what you sell.

Today the wild coyote population might satisfy those who will wear FUR HOOD ORNAMENTS. But for your company to grow, the time will come when it will not. On that day, you will turn to fur from China's dog meat trade and other horrific suppliers, or your shareholders will sell off your stock and your Board will replace you.

We ask you to work with us on a plan now so that that day never comes, when you will choose between your company's growth or the torture of dogs.

One example! Could Canada Goose consider a policy of removable trim? Your designers make a simple removal mechanism. Purchasers could send the fur back for cleaning and reuse if they decide they do not need the FUR HOOD ORNAMENT and wish to have Canada Goose buy fewer pelts, trapped or otherwise, now, or ten years from now?

In 2005, Sir Paul McCartney boycotted China's animal fur industry by vowing to never perform in China after seeing 'horrific' and "barbaric" undercover film of dogs and cats being brutalized and then killed for their fur.

In response, a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Britain said: "I have not seen this footage so am yet to be convinced of its authenticity. The distribution of the fur trade happens mostly in the European and American markets, so the fashion industries in Europe and America are to be at least partly blamed for this. I do not agree with the call for a boycott of Chinese goods. Sir Paul should be calling for a boycott of the fashion industry using fur in the European and American markets."

Please let us not grow this industry.  Let us not have you face the choice between Wall Street and torture of the most innocent.
