Proposal for Foreshore Connectivity from Prince Edward Park, Cabarita to Henry Lawson Park, Abbotsford

We the undersigned believe that connecting Halliday Park and Friend Avenue in Five Dock with a Boardwalk will have very significant public benefits.

It would increase foreshore access to the Parramatta River and Sydney Harbour, connect the western and eastern foreshore walks of Hen and Chicken Bay, create a 5.5 kilometre continuous foreshore walk, provide an important missing link to help connect with other Sydney Harbour and Parramatta River walkways, and would greatly improve local recreational and public health opportunities.

A number of years ago the City of Canada Bay Council included an option to investigate a Boardwalk to connect Halliday Park and Friend Avenue in its 2020 Foreshore Access Strategy. However, the Council resolved not to proceed with the proposal.

We believe now is the time for this Boardwalk to expand the access and connectivity of our precious foreshore.

In view of the many public benefits, significant public support, the development of designs that improve the Boardwalk and the expressed support of Council for a “Second Bay Run”, we the undersigned request that Council review its decision to remove the Boardwalk from the Council's Foreshore Access Strategy and undertake all investigations into its design and funding and initiate all community consultations to ensure that the Boardwalk is built in the current term of Council.
