I have always been brought up to respect the laws of this country and to know the difference between right and wrong. I had always believed that the justice system would be there to protect you, should you be the victim of a crime.
Sadly, I now know this not to be true. The British justice system is systematically failing victims and their families time and time again.
Not only just in our case, but in the many other families we have spoken to that are also fighting the judicial system for the rightful justice their loved ones deserve.
The publication recently released of the latest crime statistics, catalogue in the starkest terms Britain’s accelerating descent into lawlessness.
Offenders currently laugh at the justice system because there is little chance they will be caught, never mind convicted.
Home Office Minister Nick Hurd, tried to downplay the latest survey by claiming, with no justification, that "the likelihood of being a victim remains low". Hurd then resorted to a cocktail of bureaucratic jargon and claptrap about "our Serious Violence Strategy" and declared crime "is becoming increasingly complex".
This is just pathetic excuse making. In fact, offences such as murder, knife crime and robbery are all too simple in their basic savagery.
Even worse than Hurd was his Government colleague David Gauke, the Justice Secretary. In a desperate interview recently, he called for an even softer policy on crime, with less use of jail terms and more rehabilitation.
Our ministers would do far better if they concentrated on bringing hope back to the public by a reassurance that criminals will actually be punished. A strong penal approach should be the only response against serious criminality. The entire justice system is failing miserably. It has lost its integrity.
The rule of law and access to justice are fundamental to a healthy and functioning democratic society. To commit a crime such as to kill another human is to break a social rule so important to all our shared values and should “ALWAYS” be punishable with a lengthy custodial sentence.
Ryan was stabbed to death in a nightclub. What is SHOCKING for us or anyone to understand is, how can someone who admitted to stabbing Ryan to death; simply walk free from court without any punishment what so ever?
And then to be told there is NO process currently in place to allow us to appeal what is clearly a massive miscarriage of justice just makes a complete mockery of our Justice system.
That’s why we need your help! Together we can fight to change the law and get Ryan the rightful justice he and his family deserve and protect future families from ever having to go through the heartbreak Ryan’s family are currently going through.
