Campaign for the ban of Travis Scott's dangerous concerts in Australia

The issue

To the people of Australia,

We urge you to join us in calling for the Australian government to ban the entry of Travis Scott into our country. We believe that the safety and well-being of our communities should be the top priority, and recent events have raised concerns about the potential risks associated with Travis Scott's activities and performances.

Travis Scott, an internationally renowned rapper, who has targeted and grown his fanbase through puttying an avatar in the extremely popular, (and quite violent)  childrens game: FORTNITE, and known for his chart-topping hits like "SICKO MODE", has upcoming performances scheduled in Australia as part of his ALL-AGES Circus Maximus World Tour in October of 2024. However, it is imperative to consider implementing a ban on Travis Scott's entry and performances in Australia due to several factors.

Safety concerns arise when examining Travis Scott's concert history. During his performance at the Astroworld Music Festival in 2021, a tragic incident occurred where 10 concert-goers lost their lives, the youngest being only 9 years old, and thousands more were injured. Such an incident raises serious doubts about the safety measures in place during Travis Scott's concerts. To ensure the safety of the Australian public, it is crucial to prevent him from entering the country and performing.

The duty of care of performers is an important aspect to consider in the context of Travis Scott's activities and potential breaches of Australian laws. While specific legislation regarding a performer's duty of care may vary across jurisdictions, there are general principles that can be applied.

Performers have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of their audience, particularly in situations where their performances involve high-energy and potentially risky elements. This duty of care may include:

Risk Assessment: Performers should conduct a thorough risk assessment to identify potential hazards and take appropriate measures to mitigate them. This could involve assessing the venue, stage setup, crowd dynamics, and any potential safety risks associated with their performance.
Safety Measures: Performers should implement adequate safety measures to protect the audience from harm. This may include working closely with event organizers, security personnel, and venue staff to establish protocols for crowd control, emergency response, and ensuring that safety standards are met.
Communication and Warning: Performers should effectively communicate any potential risks associated with their performance to the audience. This could involve issuing warnings about specific activities or behaviors that could pose a danger to the audience, such as moshing, crowd-surfing, or participating in dangerous stunts.
Collaboration with Event Organizers: Performers should collaborate closely with event organizers to ensure that all necessary permits, licenses, and safety regulations are adhered to. They should also work together to establish protocols for emergency situations and coordinate efforts to maintain public safety.

Astroworld Blame Game: Travis Scott Rep Says He Couldn't Have Stopped Concert, While Police Say They Couldn't Have Either:

Which is complete and total garbage!! Police have complete power to shut down a concert.....but generally, if police are pulling the plug, the safest way to do this without causing any rioting...is to have the artist communicate to the audience...

This tragedy still has everyone pretending they could not haver done anything to prevent this from happening.....

This is very far from the truth.

As bodies piled up out the back, Travis Scott continued to perform.
Travis Scott looked in the eyes of a dead body as it was being carried out of the crowd, he still didn’t put a stop to the show.
Travis Scott then claimed he had no idea of the tragedy, and attended an afterparty, post astroworld.
Travis Scott is currently facing a $750million dollar lawsuit, a $2billion lawsuit, and a $10billion lawsuit.

The official cause of death was compression asphyxia, highlighting the severity of the situation .One of the key factors contributing to the negative fallout from the incident was Travis Scott's perceived lack of a genuine apology and failure to hold himself accountable to the public. This has led to a significant decline in public perception and raised concerns about his responsibility as a performer. Furthermore, the incident has sparked discussions about safety concerns, overcrowding, and insufficient security measures at his events

Record of Disruptive Behavior:

There have been reports of disruptive behaviour and crowd control issues at Travis Scott's previous concerts. Incidents where he encouraged aggressive behaviour among the audience in several instances show a pattern of disregard for public safety and order. Implementing a ban on his entry and performances in Australia would alleviate the strain on local authorities and prevent any potential disturbances caused by his concerts.

RECENT TROUBLE

March 1, 2023:

Scott was performing at a nightclub in New York City, when the sound technician asked Travis to lower the music as it was too loud for the venue's size. Travis reportedly responded by giving the sound technician the finger and punched him in the head, resulting in medical attention being needed and police being called to the scene around 3:25 a.m. Scott had reportedly been drinking alcohol and damaged $12,000 in the club's sound equipment before he left the premises. The New York City Police Department issued a warrant for Scott's arrest in relation to the incident on March 2, 2023.

Footage emerged on social media of Travis Scott calling a group of people at his gig in March “a bunch of queers” and “f*gg*ts” at Houston’s House of Blues.

June 20, 2024:

Travis Scott was arrested again for disorderly conduct and trespassing, only two months ago, when he got into an altercation with a yacht owner. Mr Scott was escorted off the scene only to return 5 minutes later, but the police were still on the scene, and Mr Scott was arrested, Allegedly intoxicated.

Australia is a country known for its vigilant regulations for public safety and wellbeing. I believe touring artists should hold firm to these same values. Banning Travis Scott from performing in Australia is not just about his negligence; it's a wider call to enforce responsibility among all artists to create safe spaces for their audiences.

In this light, I have asked the Australian government to take a proactive step in ensuring the safety of concert attendees by banning Travis Scott from performing in Australia. Through this, we are not simply implementing a penalty but ensuring that every music fan, every parent who sends their child to a concert, every crew member has the right to expect and demand safety.

Please sign this petition if you believe in the safety and well-being of all concert-goers - let's hold entertainers to account for their actions and make a safer environment for everyone.

By signing this petition, you stand in solidarity with us in seeking measures to safeguard public safety and prevent potential harm.

Thank you for your support in making our voices heard on this important issue.
