Cancel CAIE May/June-2021 Session Worldwide
The Issue
Pearson Edexcel and Oxford have all decided to cancel their May June 2021 session due to the Covid 19 outbreak regardless of the fact that all these boards conducted exams during the October November even the January sessions. It is clear that the May June candidates outnumber other session’s candidates by a huge margin, hence leading to the decision by the boards. And the same applies to Cambridge as it will be unfair to expect their international candidates to participate disregarding the current situation. As students we strongly want our exams to be replaced with teacher’s evaluated predicted grades because it will be unfair for the candidates on an international level. For instance, the current plan proposed by Cambridge states that exams will be conducted in whichever country it is possible and will not be held in specific cases like the UK or Mexico. This is unfair for two reasons firstly because of the way predicted grades are provided. Predicted grades do not contain any percentages but the exam itself will consist of marks meaning that students of countries that sit for exams are highly likely to get grades such as A* which is unattainable through teachers evaluated grades. This will lead to an overall inconsistency in the grades among the international students from the same board. The difference in grades could be a make or break factor in terms of future instances like University admissions, Career prospects etc. Secondly, this decision will push the largest group of candidates into a dangerous once-in-a-century situation where negligence could result in even death. It would be unfair on Cambridge candidates to navigate through such situations. Hence we believe that Cambridge should also cancel the exams for the May June 2021 sessions and opt for teachers evaluated grades to make a level playing field.
