Call to revoke Walter Duranty's Pulitzer Prize

The Issue

Walter Duranty (1884-1957) was an American journalist working in Moscow during the early years of the USSR. He received a Pulitzer Prize in 1932 following his reporting as Moscow Bureau Chief for the New York Times.

His articles praised the Soviet Union (and its leader Stalin) and gave explicit denial to the genocide taking place in Ukraine, called the Holodomor, in which millions of Ukrainians were killed.

In light of recent events in Ukraine, Walter Duranty should have his Pulitzer Prize posthumously revoked.
