The Issue

As someone who works with non-verbal students, I am deeply concerned and appalled by the recent reports of mistreatment in our local special education program. These students, who rely on others for their voice, deserve the utmost respect, care, and protection. Unfortunately, a recent case of alleged abuse by a special education teacher that was simply brushed under the rug and hidden, has shaken our community's trust and has raised urgent questions about the safety and well-being of our most vulnerable students.

Special education teachers hold a position of immense responsibility, and with that comes the duty to protect, support, and empower their students. When evidence surfaces suggesting that a teacher may have abused their power and hurt the very children they are meant to help, swift and decisive actions are required to ensure justice and restore faith in our educational system.

In this case, multiple reports indicate that a particular special education teacher has engaged in abusive behavior towards non-verbal students. These students cannot report their experiences or defend themselves, placing them at an even greater risk of harm. Shockingly, despite aware parents and fellow staff members raising concerns, no action has been taken. This inaction not only compromises the integrity of our educational institution but also endangers the students.

The statistics paint a troubling picture. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, students with disabilities are three times more likely to experience abuse than their non-disabled peers. This knowledge should propel us to act with urgency and empathy. We must listen to the voices of concerned parents and support staff who witness and report the detrimental behavior impacting these students.

We demand the immediate suspension and thorough investigation of the accused teacher. An external review should be conducted to ensure impartiality and transparency. It's crucial that our school district implements rigorous training programs for all staff members to prevent any such incidents in the future and to foster a safe learning environment for every student.

By signing this petition, you are standing up for the rights and dignity of non-verbal students. We cannot and will not tolerate abuse in any form. Your support will bring justice and potentially save these students from future harm. Please join us in demanding action. Sign this petition now to protect our children.
