An All-Faith Moral Call to Action: Sign On to Support Medicaid and Save Lives
Dear Friends,
This is Ivan Douglas Hicks, Ph.D., and I’m asking you to stand with us in a moment that demands courage and conviction.
The faith communities of Indiana are raising a united voice in defense of those who cannot easily fight for themselves. As part of our action-focused Medicaid research at The AfricaLogical Institute, our Medicaid studies have been used by The American Public Health Association in a Friend of the Court (Amicus Curiae) Brief that is currently filed in the D.C. Court of Appeals —a case that will shape the future of Medicaid access in Indiana and beyond.
At issue is Indiana’s HIP 2.0 program—a policy that uses “Power Accounts” (a poverty tax) and other harmful restrictions that punish the poor and sick:
- It imposes premiums on those with little or no income
- Strips away protections for the disabled and chronically ill
- Leaves families without coverage, care, or hope
Our brief uplifts both data and testimony, demonstrating these policies are harmful. Signing this petition supports this important work, and compels courts and lawmakers to pay attention to our community-valued research that defends human dignity in order to bolster community health outcomes.
While this effort is faith-led, it is open to all who believe in justice. We are asking both individuals and organizations—across all ideologies and faith traditions—to join our movement beginning with this petition.
Let us show the strength of Indiana’s moral and civic resolve. Silence is not an option when lives are at risk.
