Call on the Radford, VA City Council to Construct New Animal Shelter Outside Flood Zone

Call on the Radford, VA City Council to Construct New Animal Shelter Outside Flood Zone
The Issue
Our city holds a deep affection for its animal community, but our current animal shelter is located in a flood-prone area, leading to potential disaster. Every year, the United States experiences an average of 25 billion dollars in flood-related damages[Source: National Flood Insurance Program].
Our animal shelter, due to its location, faces the high risk of becoming part of this statistic. To prevent unnecessary disaster, it's crucial that our city council takes the initiative to construct a new, safer, and larger animal shelter outside the flood zone. An improved location will ensure the safety of animals in our care, reduce potential repair costs, and demonstrate our community's commitment to protecting all citizens, two-legged and four-legged.
Adele and her crew do a fantastic job taking care of all the homeless animals in our community. Thankfully, they were able to safely evacuate all animals to safe locations before flooding that occurred from Hurricane Helene. However, they should not have to do this. Additionally, what if they were unable safely evacuate? We should not wait for devastation. We need to be proactive and not reactive.
Join us as we urge the city council to consider this essential change for the wellbeing of our animal community. Please, sign the petition.
