Call for the Senate to Investigate Senator Mehreen Faruqi’s UNAUSTRALIAN Remarks on Hamas and Palestine

AUSTRALIA DOES NOT SUPPORT TERRORISM.

AUSTRALIA DOES NOT WANT POLITICIANS OR GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES WHO SUPPORT TERRORISM.

AUSTRALIANS DO NOT WANT THEIR TAX DOLLARS PAYING FOR SENATORS WHO SUPOORT TERRORIST ORGANISATIONS.

We, the concerned citizens of Australia, are calling on the Australian Senate to formally investigate the recent public remarks made by Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi, which appear to express support for or sympathy with the actions of Hamas — a terrorist organisation banned under Australian law.

At a pro-Palestinian rally, Senator Faruqi was filmed making the following statements:

  • That the Federal Election should be “a Palestine Election”;
  • That Australians should “make sure your vote counts for Palestine”;
  • That there are “double standards” in how Muslims are treated in this country — comments made shortly after Hamas launched deadly attacks against civilians.

These remarks have been widely reported and interpreted by many as an endorsement or rationalisation of violence carried out by a proscribed group. Regardless of one’s views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, no sitting member of Parliament should appear to support or justify terrorism.

We, as Australian citizens, are deeply concerned that Senator Faruqi’s public statements reflect motives and interests that are not aligned with the Australian population at large, and show a troubling disregard for the values, safety, and representation of our Jewish and Christian communities — many of whom have been affected by the rise in antisemitism and religious tensions.

We are petitioning the Senate to:

Launch a formal investigation into Senator Faruqi’s public statements and affiliations;
Determine whether her actions violate any part of Section 44 of the Australian Constitution or laws relating to support for terrorist organisations;
Take appropriate action, including censure, suspension, or referral to law enforcement, if warranted.

Our Parliament must remain a place of integrity, unity, and lawful representation of the interests of Australians. We ask you to stand up for Australian values and take appropriate action.

Sign and share this petition to protect the standards of leadership we expect in this country.
