The Issue

On December 13, 2022, the night Ms. Anderson was sworn in for a second term and selected as Board President, she was involved in a traffic collision at the intersection of Placentia Avenue and Victoria Street in Costa Mesa. According to Costa Mesa Police Department report #22-019485, Ms. Anderson broadsided another motorist and left the scene of the crash, departing in another vehicle and abandoning her own car, which contained her driver’s license and work identification.

The victim’s car spun, the victim reported pain and shock, and paramedics treated her. Ms. Anderson did not remain to render aid, exchange information, or speak to law enforcement.

Following investigation, the Orange County District Attorney filed criminal charges in Superior Court Case 23WM11764, alleging hit-and-run.
On July 17, 2024, Ms. Anderson pleaded guilty to the hit-and-run offense.

This was not an isolated lapse in judgment. Public court records show that in 2004, Ms. Anderson was convicted of Driving Under the Influence with a blood alcohol content of .25%. That is over three times the legal limit under Case 04HM06557.

While individuals can grow and change, public service requires trust.

Fleeing the scene of a collision, especially one that injured another person, is incompatible with the standards of responsibility required of a school board trustee.

Our schools teach students:

  • Accountability
  • Integrity
  • Owning our actions

We should expect NO LESS from those who govern those schools.

Therefore, we respectfully demand:

The immediate resignation of Trustee Ashley Anderson.

This request is NOT personal or political.
It is a matter of public trust, ethics, and the example we set for our students.

NMUSD deserves leadership that models responsibility, not behavior that undermines it.
