The Issue

Arkansas Community Members,

I'm reaching out today with an urgent request: Please join us in calling for the protection of SNAP. This critical program is under threat, and we’re working to build a strong coalition of advocates who believe in one simple principle—protect SNAP.

SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) is not a politically partisan program; in fact, it is a vital lifeline for many in our state. Arkansas ranks #1 in the nation for food insecurity, according to a 2024 USDA report. Last year, more than 240,100 Arkansans relied on SNAP to help feed themselves and their families - 49% of those recipients live within our 33-county service area. Even more telling, Feeding America estimates that almost half of Arkansas's food insecure population as a whole is eligible for SNAP assistance.

At Arkansas Foodbank, we’re committed to expanding access to this essential program through our SNAP Help Center. We serve Arkansans like Homer. Homer is a retired veteran, who through no fault of his own, sometimes needs help making ends meet. SNAP helps him stretch his food budget, so he doesn't have to choose between his medicine or groceries each month.

We champion SNAP because it works. For every one meal we provide, SNAP provides nine. It helps seniors and families stretch their food budgets and gives recipients the dignity of choice—enabling them to select foods that are meaningful, familiar, and culturally relevant. Additionally, SNAP bridges a critical gap on a temporary basis to support Arkansans in crisis. Altogether, SNAP supports long-term food security.

We need your voice. If you agree with this message, click the button to add your name to our letter in support of SNAP. Together, we can protect this program and continue to fight hunger in Arkansas.

Gratefully,

Brian Burton

CEO, Arkansas Foodbank
