call for sdrc n tmr qld to alocate the funding for Warwick Principal Cycleway Network
The issue
As a resident of Warwick QLD, I am concerned about the safety of our local cyclists and visitors who use Dragon St., Pratten St., and Easy Sts and the planned warwick principal cycleway network project, These streets are currently painted cycleways that pose significant challenges due to heavy traffic. The intersection of Dragon and Wood St., in particular, is a dangerous crash zone situated near essential services such as pharmacies, doctors' offices, and medical centers. This intersection also serves as a vital link between intersections, Bracker Road and Victoria St. the intersection of wood and dragon st has a crash history of near crashes witch has since crashes many times in 2016, 2018 and most recently between 2022 and 2023 and still even in 2024, its needed traffic lights and turning lanes on wood st for years. this cycle project provides that option to see a safer intersection and reduce near and rear end crashes. wood and dragon st is nerve wracking and really dangerous to see drivers turn out and bolt accross the cross intersection. even caughing the eye of wood st drivers and residents that see close calls everyday that live there.
The Warwick QLD Principal Cycleway Network project promises to enhance safety by upgrading these areas. However, its current timeline extended until June 2023 with funding not yet been alocated but the planning is completed since 2023.- an unnecessarily long wait for improvements that could save lives now. there has not been a anwser or update from tmr qld and sdrc warwick qld since mid 2023, . the intersection of wallace and pratten st warwick qld saw 2 options including install traffic lights or a cycle and pedestrain underpass. the option would of likely been traffic lights at a much but not cheeply cost. a underpass would of likely costed millons or billons and would of needed drilling under wallace street and the removal of a nearby house and drawling on wallace st near the intersection and park. having lights at the intersection replaces the giveway signs and includes extended the existing 4 lane road with medium islands on wallace st. this intersection doesnt have a big crash history as wood and dragon st does with only been controled by stop signs. wood and dragon st is still a busy well bing and health intersection with facilities nearby and has needed traffic lights for years and the pricipal bikeway option comes as a way for key upgrades, This petition calls on TMR QLD and Southern Downs Regional Council Warwick QLD, SDRC Warwick QLD to come back together to fast-track this critical project. By accelerating planning completion and alocate the funding, needed to get this off the ground, we can ensure safer streets for all users sooner rather than later. we want and hope for the upgrade to commence in the future. this is a really important safety cycleway project that could reduce future needs in stages or in one way,
We urge everyone who cares about the safety of our community's cyclists - residents of Warwick QLD or Queensland at large - to sign this petition. Let's make our streets safer for everyone sooner!
