Call for Ruba Ghazal's resignation

As a proud resident of Quebec, I am deeply concerned by the recent incident at the National Assembly. Today, during her swearing-in ceremony, Ruba Ghazal brandished a Palestinian symbol in the official setting of our democratic institution. This gesture was, in my view, inappropriate and out of place for an official ceremony, which should focus solely on serving our Quebec community.
Quebec is a welcoming land for many people from all walks of life. We value diversity, openness, and inclusion. However, during official and solemn occasions such as the swearing-in ceremony, it is crucial that our elected officials focus on the priorities of our people and on the values of political neutrality and respect for the democratic institutions of our province.
Ruba Ghazal, by brandishing this symbol on such an occasion, stirred up unnecessary tensions and diverted attention from the true priorities of the Quebec people. We respect individual rights and the diversity of opinions, but there is a time and a place for every political expression. This moment was not appropriate. It is important that political representatives remain impartial in their official role in order to preserve public trust and guarantee the integrity of our institutions.
