Urgent Call to Action: Support Peanut’s Law and Protect Our Animals

On October 30th, the DEC made the devastating decision to euthanize our beloved Peanut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon, despite our heartfelt pleas for compassion. Shockingly, the DEC made this decision without consulting P’nuts Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary, their loving home, and informed the media before even notifying us. This heart-wrenching loss has left us not only grieving but deeply committed to ensuring that no other animal faces the same fate.

At P’nuts Freedom Farm, we’ve dedicated ourselves to providing a safe and loving sanctuary for animals in need. For years, we’ve rescued and cared for countless animals, from squirrels and raccoons to other wildlife in distress. Our work is driven by a passion for animal welfare and the belief that every animal deserves respect, dignity, and the chance to live in a safe environment.

Now, in honor of Peanut and Fred, we are asking for your support in pushing for Peanut’s Law—a crucial piece of legislation that will forever change how wildlife is treated in New York State.

What is Peanut’s Law?

Peanut’s Law is a proposed bill aimed at ensuring compassionate, humane treatment of animals by wildlife agencies like the DEC. The bill will establish clearer protocols for wildlife management and hold agencies accountable for their actions. Peanut’s Law will mandate the use of transparency, oversight, and humane practices when making life-altering decisions about the animals under their care. It is a step toward ensuring that no animal suffers the way Peanut and Fred did.

What We’re Fighting For:
- Compassionate Wildlife Management: Ensuring that wildlife agencies are required to follow humane, ethical practices when dealing with animals.
- Transparency and Accountability: Demanding that agencies like the DEC follow their own guidelines, including using body cameras and providing full transparency when making decisions regarding animals.
- Protection for Families and Communities: Making sure that individuals and families who care for animals are treated with respect and dignity, rather than being criminalized for offering sanctuary to wildlife.

The Journey of P’nuts Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary:

For years, P’nuts Freedom Farm has been at the forefront of advocating for animal welfare, providing a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable animals that might otherwise be forgotten. Our sanctuary has given countless animals a second chance at life, from injured wildlife to those needing rehabilitation. But Peanut and Fred’s story has shown us that we must go further to ensure that no other animals face unnecessary harm or unjust decisions.

We refuse to accept that animals who have found safety and care in sanctuaries should be subjected to arbitrary decisions that end their lives prematurely. We believe that Peanut’s Law is not just a response to a tragedy—it is a call to action to protect all animals in New York State from unnecessary suffering and to hold agencies like the DEC accountable for their actions.
