Call for Inquiry into Planning Lapses leading to Infrastructure Deficiencies in Tallawong
Call for Inquiry into Planning Lapses leading to Infrastructure Deficiencies in Tallawong
The issue
We, the undersigned residents of Tallawong, 2762, are deeply concerned about the current state of our suburb’s infrastructure and the resultant negative impacts on our community. We respectfully petition for an official inquiry into the planning and development decisions that have led to several critical deficiencies:
Absence of Parks and Green Spaces: Our suburb is lacking in parks and recreational areas, which are essential for the physical and mental well-being of residents. The current deficiency restricts our access to safe, open spaces for relaxation and community activities.
Lack of Play Areas for Children: There are no designated play areas or playgrounds for children, leaving our youngest residents without safe places to play and develop. This is a significant oversight in urban planning, affecting the quality of life for families.
No Local Schools: The absence of schools within the suburb forces families to travel long distances for high school education, placing unnecessary strain on both students and parents, and contributing to overall traffic congestion.
Inadequate Pavements and Sidewalks: The insufficient coverage of pavements and sidewalks pose safety risks to pedestrians, particularly to children and the elderly, and limit mobility for all residents.
Lack of Public Transportation Connections: There is a notable deficiency in public transportation services, specifically the absence of bus routes connecting our suburb to the Tallawong metro/Schofield train station. This lack of connectivity affects residents’ timely access to employment, education, and essential services.
Unchecked Developments Causing Traffic Congestion: Rapid development in our suburb has led to severe traffic congestion, impacting daily commutes and overall traffic safety. The current infrastructure is not equipped to handle the increased volume of vehicles, causing frequent traffic jams.
Inadequate Car Parking at Metro Station: The metro station serving our suburb is plagued by insufficient car parking spaces. This shortfall results in congestion, safety concerns, and frustration among commuters who are often left with no alternative but to park inappropriately or seek alternative transport options.
Insufficient Road Infrastructure: The roads connecting our suburb to the metro station are inadequate to handle the volume of traffic. This problem exacerbates the parking issues and creates hazardous conditions for both drivers and pedestrians.
Lack of Sporting Facilities and Community Halls: Our suburb is also underserved in terms of sporting facilities and community halls. These essential amenities are crucial for the health, well-being, and social integration of our residents. The absence of such facilities limits recreational opportunities and community engagement.
Given these pressing issues, we request that the Blacktown City Council, Department of planning, housing and infrastructure and NSW State Government initiate a formal inquiry into the planning processes and decisions that have led to these deficiencies. Specifically, we seek:
An Investigation into Planning Practices: A comprehensive review of the planning and development strategies used in our suburb, including how decisions were made regarding parks, schools, pavements, public transportation, Metro car spaces, Roads infrastructure, community spaces and development controls.
Public Consultation: Opportunities for residents to provide input and feedback on proposed changes and improvements, ensuring that community needs and concerns are adequately addressed.
Action Plan and Timeline: Development of a clear action plan with specific measures and timelines to rectify the identified issues and prevent similar lapses in future planning.
We believe that addressing these concerns is crucial for fostering a thriving, safe, and well-connected community. We urge you to act swiftly and decisively to ensure that our suburb develops in a manner that meets the needs of all its residents.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. We look forward to your response and the implementation of necessary actions.
