Each of these numbers represents a mother, daughter, sister, or friend, gone too soon due to violence that could have been prevented. The systemic nature of this violence demands a comprehensive investigation and a monumental shift in how such cases are handled and prevented.
This is why I am calling for the establishment of a Royal Commission into the violence and homicide of women. Such a commission can provide an authoritative and independent review of current responses to violence against women, identifying key failures and areas needing urgent reform.
