Call for a review of management at Welcome Centre
The Issue
Every day, employees at the Welcome Centre dedicate themselves to providing essential services and care to those in need. As part of this dedicated team, I, alongside many of my colleagues, have experienced firsthand how our passion and commitment have been tested by systemic issues within the management structure.
Over the past year, multiple employees have been unjustly terminated or compelled to leave, despite displaying commendable dedication and surpassing the ordinary expectations set for their roles. These departures have not only affected the individuals involved but have also fractured team cohesion, hampered our ability to serve clients effectively, and lowered overall morale.
The crux of these problems lies in the management practices overseen by the current Manager, Dawn Toth. Allegations of favoritism, inconsistent communication, lack of transparency, and authoritative decision-making without employee input have been widespread. While the Centre's mission remains close to our hearts, these managerial issues have impeded our ability to fulfill this mission.
According to a study published by the Society for Human Resource Management, positive workplace environments significantly increase employee productivity and job satisfaction. Unfortunately, the contrary has been the experience of many at the Welcome Centre, as management practices have detracted from our capacity to fully engage in our work and provide optimal care for our clients.
Moreover, the clients themselves, many of whom are vulnerable individuals seeking refuge and support, suffer when staff turnover is high and morale is low. Continuity and stability in staffing are critical in establishing trust and providing quality care.
It is essential that the Board of Directors recognizes the urgency and gravity of these concerns. We propose a formal and impartial review of the current management at the Welcome Centre, with a particular focus on whether a change in leadership is necessary to restore a positive and effective working environment.
A constructive and unbiased review will not only address the specific concerns related to management practices but will also pave the way for a more inclusive and supportive workplace culture. It will demonstrate the Board's commitment to the welfare of both employees and clients, and ensure that the Welcome Centre continues to thrive and fulfill its vital mission.
We urge current and former employees, clients, and community members who have observed or been affected by these issues to support this petition. Please add your voice to this call for necessary change to protect the integrity and functionality of the Welcome Centre. Sign this petition to ensure a brighter future for everyone affiliated with our organization.
