At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, many service members, like myself, faced a daunting decision: take the experimental COVID-19 vaccine or face discharge. As a member of the Navy, my lifelong dream was to serve my country, but that dream hinged on complying with this mandate. Under immense pressure and the threat of losing my career and livelihood, I took the vaccine.

The government’s decision to mandate the vaccine without adequate long-term studies has left us with significant health burdens. The Department of Defense’s responsibility is to ensure the well-being of its members, and it is incumbent upon them to address the ramifications of their decisions.

Concrete evidence indicates that such mandates, executed under duress, have lasting health impacts. The CDC and other reputable health authorities have confirmed side effects, and while the intent was to safeguard public health, the pressure under which this decision was made and enforced should not be overlooked.

We call upon the Department of Defense to issue a 100% disability rating to all service members who, like myself, were coerced into taking the vaccine under threat of discharge. Acknowledging the physical and psychological toll this has taken on us is vital. It is about making amends and providing the necessary support to those who have dedicated their lives to their country.
