Supporters of the Kern River,

On Thursday, Bring Back the Kern hosted visiting earthscape artist Andres Amador, who is well known for fleetingly beautiful artwork, often done between tides on sandy beaches. His Kern River design, entitled "Flow," was intended to raise awareness about Bakersfield's need of a flowing river, while at the same time creating something striking. Instead of using sand as the medium, plant material from weeds removed from elsewhere in the Parkway were used to make a bold design in the riverbed. The lines themselves cover over 2500' square feet, and the area the artwork goes through is significantly larger still. The installation sits in the dry riverbed at Beach Park, just SW of the 24th St Bridge.
