Great work everyone! You have joined a movement that is going to help make the Kern River flow again.
In a little over a month, we have accumulated enough signatures to fill all seats in Mechanics Bank Theater with supporters of the Kern River (>2,600). See the accompanying photo. In the world of California water rights and water contracts, that's a lot of public interest.
We can do better, though. Over 500,000 people live in the Bakersfield area - people who would clearly benefit from having a flowing river. They would have better quality drinking water, a thriving ecosystem along the Kern River Parkway, and a fantastic recreational space easily accessible. Beyond the Bakersfield area, there are millions of people who care about wild plants/animals, environmental justice, and beautiful flowing rivers.
Can you think of a few people either in Bakersfield or elsewhere who would care about restoring the Kern? Please share this petition with them and ask them to sign. You will be helping raise public awareness by spreading the word about why there is no water in the river, and you will be helping expedite the return of the river with every additional signature you can garner.
The Kern has given so much for so long. Let's continue doing what we can in return to restore it.
