Cesar Chavez has long been honored across California, with many public schools bearing his name. But recent reports have brought forward deeply troubling allegations of inappropriate behavior involving women and minors during his leadership of the United Farm Workers.

Organizations tied to his legacy have acknowledged these allegations and described them as serious, launching efforts to gather information and support those who may have been harmed.

California schools should reflect the highest standards of integrity, safety, and respect. When serious allegations emerge, especially involving minors, it is appropriate to reassess who we choose to honor in our public institutions.

This is not about rewriting history — it is about ensuring that the names on our schools align with the values we want to uphold for students and families today.
