Amid the Coronavirus pandemic facing America, virtually every sport has shut down across the country except horse racing.  The NCAA has canceled March Madness, the NBA and NHL have suspended their seasons and Major League Baseball has postponed the start of its season.

Why not horse racing in California where 25 horses (and counting) have already been killed just this year (2020) alone as a result of racing or training.  The source for these numbers and statistics are available from California Horse Racing Board, Equibase and www.banhorseracing.com

California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency over the Coronavirus and recommended limiting large gatherings and social distancing to protect the members of the community.  So why are California's horse racing tracks still operating and putting the health, safety and welfare of the horses and community at risk during the Coronavirus pandemic?

In response to the Coronavirus, horse racing may be off-limits to all individuals except horsemen, jockeys, essential staff, state-licensed officials and accredited media.  However, racing "behind closed doors" flies in the face of transparency for the sake of the horse's health and safety and all those involved in the training or racing of these horses.

It is worth noting that sound medical literature and experts reveal that horses are not immune from the equine coronavirus (ECOV).

The Coronavirus pandemic only adds to the health and safety threat that has already permeated California's racetracks with the 30 racing and/or training deaths at Santa Anita during its 2018/2019 winter/spring meet not to mention the recent alleged drug doping scandal involving California trainer "Bob Baffert" and Triple Crown Winner "Justify".  We can't forget to mention the rash of horse deaths in California under Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.  These are only a few of the scandals that have been exposed and brought to light in horse racing through animal rights groups such as www.banhorseracing.com and others.

These deaths, along with dozens more that have been killed at Santa Anita since the 2018/2019 winter/spring meet, as well as the racehorses that have been killed during training or racing at other California racetracks (Golden Gate, Los Alamitos, and Del Mar) in recent weeks and months are disgraceful enough.  Sources: CHRB, Equibase and www.banhorseracing.com

Help www.banhorseracing.com demand that Governor Newsom SHUT DOWN ALL CALIFORNIA HORSE RACING TRACKS for the health, safety and welfare of the horses and the community until the Coronavirus pandemic is handled and gone!
