A member of the Democratic Party, she was the oldest sitting U.S. senator at the time of her retirement. Feinstein served as Mayor of San Francisco from 1978 to 1988, and she tackled many key policy areas during her political career, including gun control, healthcare, and climate change. She was also the first woman to preside over a U.S. presidential inauguration, overseeing the festivities for President Barack Obama's first term in office in 2009.
