This earnest petition is an urgent call to address the escalating demand for cricket in our community, fueled by Calgary's increasing population and the recent influx of migration from Ontario and British Columbia.

The Growing Demand for Cricket:

As Calgary continues to experience steady population growth, the interest and passion for cricket have witnessed a remarkable surge in our diverse and multicultural community. Cricket holds a special place as a unifying sport that bridges cultural gaps, fostering camaraderie and encouraging active engagement among residents of different backgrounds.

The Success of Cricket Tournaments in Canada:

We draw attention to the overwhelming success of recent cricket tournaments across Canada, exemplifying the significant benefits of investing in cricket infrastructure. Notably, the GT20 tournament in Brampton, Ontario, has not only attracted top talent from around the world but has also contributed significantly to local businesses. The influx of spectators, tourists, and media attention has generated substantial revenue, invigorating the local economy and presenting a model for Calgary to emulate.

Additionally, in July 2023, Medicine Hat hosted a highly successful tennis ball cricket tournament that garnered widespread attention and participation. This tournament demonstrated the potential for organizing and promoting cricket events that resonate with both players and spectators. The enthusiastic response from the community in Medicine Hat reinforces the growing popularity of cricket in Alberta and underscores the need for enhanced cricket infrastructure in Calgary.
