1. Calgary Beggars On Public Roads & Outside Calgary Businesses begging...Interfering With Traffic Flow, Obvious Safety/Health Issues must be dealt with as it is getting worse.

I just returned from a trip to the Superstore in Shawnessy where I was accosted by a beggar with a sign actively walking up to every person trying to enter the store. No 6 feet....no social distancing....no mask....no dignity. Next as I went down Canyon Meadows eastbound to go to Deer Run Walmart in Queensland , I was approached once again by a serial beggar on the 80 Km/hour roadway at the red lights of Bow Bottom Trail and Canyon Meadows Drive SE. Apparently, he has claimed this intersection to all eastbound traffic hobbling through the traffic on the road . Baffled and amazed by the few foolish hands providing reward for this dangerous behaviour, I pulled into Walmart in Queensland, was subjected to a third beggar asking for money to feed her 4 children as I exited the parking lot. Heading home I once again had to go through the Bow Bottom & Canyon Meadows drive begging....on the road..

Enough is enough.

Give these people back their dignity by saying NO. There are social networks in place to help the truly destitute. Anyone who gives them money is destroying what little dignity they have left and enabling addictions while endangering their own families health and safety. Where are the police? Where is By-Law? Where is Nenshi? Where are our city Councillors? Where is leadership? Where is common sense? STOP IT!

 2. Solutions; Most of these beggars with no connectivity to access Social Resources already available need to be shown them. First and second offence they could attend a mandatory Information Meeting with social workers set up to address their access to existing programs and discuss/get help with addiction counselling This means pick them up at the intersection, document them, take them to the 24/7 counselling center. Third offense punitive actions ...escalating fines. Start small ...and get bigger. Police & By-Law must check intersections and parking lots at stores Malls daily to discourage and record serial offenders.
