SHOUNLDN’T LECTURES HAVE TO WORK WITH STUDENTS?
The Issue
TITLE: SHOUNLDN’T LECTURES HAVE TO WORK WITH STUDENTS?
Our lecture at university of South Africa (UNISA) MR TETELO LEKWANA the lecture for Computer Aided Draughting I (CAD161S) has never worked with us this semester (S2 2020). Yes, we know that it is our duty as distance learning students to study every module by our selves but we have the rights to send our lectures emails where we don’t understand and ask for clarity.
During the study of this module, our lecture mr lekwana has never responded to my emails when I was asking about the content of the module but I kept quiet and moved on from that. Then towards the examination, we never got our assignments marks and memorandums for the assignments. And we wrote CAD161S examination without knowing what we were aiming for, is that fair? We are two weeks away after writing CAD161S examination now but still no assignments marks, they don’t matter anymore, we wrote exam.
More than 75% of semester one 2020 (S1 2020) students were repeating this module because of the carelessness of this lecture: mr lekwana, and now they were facing the problem of not getting emails/notification about this module. Some students from semester one argued that they didn’t manage to go through e-assessment (e-assessment is a site in myunisa where the lecture post assignments and exam papers for CAD161S) because their profiles were not updated. Then that means they didn’t manage to get the exam paper for OCT/NOV 2020. With no doubt they are going to repeat this module for the third time in semester one 2021(S1 2021), with what money? And the syllabus for national diplomas in engineering has been changed and we have until 2023 to complete these qualifications, then mr lekwana keeps on delaying us.
With no doubt most of us (up to 85%) are going to register this module CAD161S again in the next semester (S1 2021) because the paper we wrote it was nothing like the projects we did in assignments, we never learnt anything about the constraints of a piston but we had piston project in exam. At the last 30 minutes of submission time myunisa website froze and never managed to submit. Later that day, some students said that the lecture has sent a post in MS Teams (which some of us don’t know what is MS Teams and how it works). On that post the lecture said “if you have failed to submit for whatever legitimate reason, please provide the evidence of your failed submission attempts and attach your files”, and most students never got that message because it was in MS Teams. Then some of us did what he asked and send him emails, he didn’t respond until now. Truly speaking, I don’t see professionalism in him.
What I know is that 85% of us are going to repeat this module CAD161S next semester (S1 2021). If we are going to have the same lecture (mr lekwana) we will never pass this module. I hope that University of South Africa (UNISA) do something about this issue. We as Computer Aided Draughting I (CAD161S) students need a new lecture.
Your votes my fellow students are appreciated and justice shall be served. AMANDLA! AWETHU!
