Increase more women in our cabinet.

We are Tara Krishnaswamy, co-founder of Political Shakti, a citizen-led initiative to have more women in politics and Shilpashree Jagannathan, a volunteer with Political Shakti.

I am writing to you to request that you give 50% cabinet berths to women. In the last government, we had Nirmala Sitharaman, Sushma Swaraj, Maneka Gandhi, Smriti Irani, and Najma Heptulla. Why not have more in this government?

In your post-election results speech, you promised an inclusive government for us. We are 50% of the population. We deserve better and higher representation.

Having more women in cabinet positions creates more role models for women who are looking at a political career. It also gives more power to women, increases diversity in decision-making processes and law implementing processes. We need more women to occupy our parliaments, roads, offices, playgrounds and educational institutions.

You dear friend and Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau did the same when he formed his ministry in 2014, it is high time India did this too.
