Our current problem is that therapy animals aren't allowed in Cabarrus County Schools. This is a problem because the therapy animals can calm students and staff with (or without) medical/mental illnesses. For example, students/staff with anxiety, special needs, and the feeling that they are not accepted. Therapy animals overall make a more comfortable learning environment, and makes school feel like a safer place.

As we said, therapy animals around the school it may also make the school feel like a safer place. When the Florida shooting happened, therapy dogs were used to help comfort the students that made the difficult decision to come back from their traumatic experience. Research shows that the dogs helped reduce the fear that they had and made them feel less anxious.

Another way therapy dogs help is with people that have trouble feeling accepted or loved. Whether it be because of weight, sexuality, race, or other, therapy animals can help a person feel comforted and loved. The animals can give a chance to engage in friendships and and other positive opportunities.

Some more benefits of therapy animals are that they can lower blood pressure. They can also reduce boredom, reduce loneliness and provide comfort. Finally, they can help children focus and increase self-confidence.

By signing this petition, you will help support therapy animals in the Cabarrus County School System. Our goal is 10,000 signitures by the end of April, 2020. If enough signitures are given, we will attend a Board Meeting and propose the idea in hopes that your support will get them back! We may try to gather some students and staff to attend. If you are interested in attending the board meeting, please have both boxes on the right side of your screen checked off when submitting your signiture and we will contact you via email.
