Keep Bus Stations Open During Service Hours including early morning and night.

The Issue

I am writing this petition to address the issue of safety regarding those using Bus Eireann or Ulsterbus services. In Monaghan Bus Station, the station has been closed down for over a year now meaning that anyone getting a bus in the evenings or early morning is standing outside in the dark, often for long periods of time (as some services tend to be delayed). As a student who frequently uses Bus Eireann's services across the North and North East, this is an issue I am seeing in a few stations. I have been worried for my safety waiting outside the closed bus station in Monaghan many evenings waiting to go home. I have heard many accounts of young women being approached in the Dundalk Bus Station by people who threaten to hurt them or make degrading remarks. As Dundalk station closes at 6pm, it leaves vulnerable people standing outside as a lot of buses run all night/early morning. If the buses run at all hours, shouldn't the station run all hours too? Surely more staff could be hired to do the night shift in the station and allow customers to sit somewhere together in safety and provide security. Considering the extortionate fares Bus Eireann charge for tickets, don't their customers deserve a safe area to wait?
