#ByeCastingFrontier: Actors Leaving Casting Frontier by April 15, 2024

The Issue

Actors have been fortunate to collaborate with talented and creative Casting Directors and insightful dedicated Talent Reps for decades creating quality entertainment across film, television, and in the clever, concise, moving, provocative, and even hilarious world of television commercials.

As proud partners on these teams, actors are signing here to advise our colleagues that by April 15, 2024, we intend to remove our materials from the online pay to play casting site, Casting Frontier.

Please use this information if you feel it is necessary to adjust the infrastructure of your office to continue to work together efficiently.

The reality is, these difficult financial times for rank and file performers force us to consolidate our expenses in every aspect of our lives, professional and private.

By discontinuing our subscription payments to at least one of the existing and redundant commercial casting pay to play online portals, we can collectively save our community millions of dollars a year. That is a significant number to professional union actors. SAG-AFTRA Actors are routinely underemployed, and the reality is more than 80% of us earn less than $27,000 annually as performers.

The evolution and expense of online pay to play casting sites has turned these once-efficient online data hosting tools for actors into an unethical dividend-generating platform for the venture capitalists who control a large portion of these platforms.

In the current system, out of work actors are footing the entire bill for Casting Networks and Casting Frontier, both owned by the same corporation, Talent Partners. We hope you can understand that the pain of consolidating your casting office operations to one less platform will be a large step toward undoing an unethical and exploitative business model under which actors have suffered for years.

While we have your ear, this may be a good time to mention actors are aware that at least two new online commercial casting sites have or will launch their own version of a pay to play online commercial casting portal hoping to create an additional demand on unemployed actors finances.

Please understand, we are not pleased with the current redundant pay to play system we have been forced into. Moving forward we will continue to work to reduce or eliminate the financial burden the existing and proposed sites inflict on us. We are exploring State and Local Regulations and Labor Codes in an effort to determine if charging actors to apply for work is in keeping with current legislation.

While we need to take this financial stand, please know that we are aware that those of us who collaborate-- including Ad Agencies, Writers, Talent Reps, Casting Directors, Session Runners, Directors & DPs, Crew, National and International Brands, SelfTape Readers, and everyone in between--  are creating popular, talked-about, often-timeless, winning television commercials. Our precision collaboration in commercials tells an entire story in 15-30 seconds in an industry where it often takes well-known top performers an entire 90 minutes or more to tell a tale.

We are all working at the top of our game. What a team we have created!

This petition would not be complete without thanking Casting Frontier developers and participants for their dedication and collaboration that, for a time, helped us streamline expenses and increased efficiency in commercial auditioning and casting.

This petition and action to remove our materials from Casting Frontier is a decision made individually by those of us who have signed this petition. This petition is NOT in any way affiliated with SAG-AFTRA or any other organization. #ByeCastingFrontier
