The issue

Hello all you wildlife advocates, carers and everyone else who just loves animals. We need your help to convince Bunnings to stop stocking glue traps of any description.

As you can see in the images, glue traps cause horrific pain and suffering to any animal that comes in contact with them. It can be days before the creature succumbs to death via dehydration and starvation. Animals have been known to tear off, or bite through, their own limbs in an attempt to free themselves.

Yahoo News Australia ran a story specifically about the sale of these products and the Bunnings representative stated that whilst they complied with all Australian laws for selling glue traps they were also aware of the risks associated with the products they sell, on birds and other wildlife.

This company is aware of the consequences yet they still sell them because they can ……. legally. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

We are hoping to fill the inbox of the people in Bunnings who can stop this. These people can make a big difference and maybe we can get a win for wildlife which can be few and far between at times.

We are asking Micheal Schneider as the Managing Director of the Bunnings Group and part of the Wesfarmers management team to remove ALL glue traps from Bunnings shelves. We are calling on all sellers of the horrific devices, including eBay and Amazon, to stop selling glue traps.

We are asking Bunnings, Chief Operating Officer, Mr Ben McIntosh if he will help in getting Bunnings to uphold community standards for  environmental responsibility and animal welfare.

This one can be won if enough of us get involved. No creature deserves this fate.

Responded
Dear Petition Signers, Thank you for speaking up for Australian wildlife. Glue traps are a cruel and indiscriminate killer, leaving trapped animals to suffer a slow and horrific death. My name is Mackenzie Severns, and I am running for the Senate with the Animal Justice Party (AJP) in Queensland, along with many other AJP candidates across Australia. We stand alongside you in advocating for a ban on the sale and use of glue traps. Now more than ever, Australian wildlife need our help! The Animal Justice Party abhors the use of glue traps and believes they must be banned immediately due to their extreme cruelty. Already banned in some states, the ban needs to be Australia-wide. The AJP and all our election candidates call upon all stores, online market-places, and major hardware stores including Bunnings to stop their sale immediately. The AJP has kind and compassionate candidates across the country who are contesting the upcoming Federal election. Read more about our candidates here! https://www.animaljusticeparty.org/federal_election_candidates You may also be interested in reading our policy, on the related issue of introduced animals. https://www.animaljusticeparty.org/introduced_animals The Animal Justice Party recognises that there is no simple solution to controlling the impact of introduced species but believes that only non-lethal, humane, effective and species-specific methods are acceptable. Too many of the current methods used, including 1080 poison, glue traps, and shooting, are cruel and often non-targeted, harming native animals and the local environment. Together we’re fighting for a brighter future for animals, people and the planet. Kind regards, Mackenzie Severns - AJP Qld Lead Senate Candidate and Darren Brollo - AJP NSW Lead Senate Candidate Ivan Davis - AJP Tas Lead Senate Candidate Amanda Dorn - AJP WA Lead Senate Candidate Yana del Valle - AJP ACT Lead Senate Candidate Louise Pfeiffer - AJP SA Lead Senate Candidate Brownyn Currie - AJP Vic Lead Senate Candidate
