Another day another glue trap.

This young magpie was caught up in a glue trap in Preston, Victoria. The member of the public removed the glue trap which is never recommended as we generally ask vets and experienced carers to assess the injury before removing the trap. Incorrect removal can lead to more injury and extreme pain.

Birds like magpies will use their pointed beak to peck at the area where the trap is attached. They can break their own bones attempting to get off traps. This little one is in care now with an experienced carer.

The saddest part about this is Victoria and Tasmania have specific glue trap bans, yet people are still using and selling them.

Please contact the Victorian RSPCA inspectorate on (03)9224 2222 and ask them to investigate the sale of these items when complaints are made. One current complaint we are aware of is 443812. Please lend your support. Please be polite and kind to the operators, as they are not responsible for this and should be treated with respect.

If you are Victorian and see them in shops please report it. It might just save a bird, bat or lizard from a cruel slow death. Lodging complaints is our own way to voice our request for enforcement of the laws.

If you wish to join over 70000 people you can sign or share our petition to ask Bunnings to remove the glue traps then you can find it here.
