This little creature is a Southern Boobook owl. Owls, as apex predators, are natures best way of controlling the numbers of rodents throughout the world.

Just to give you an understanding of the Boobook, they mate for life. They talk to their partner with a specific three syllable call. In effect they call each other by their names. Boobooks can take up residence in an area and mate in the exact same spot for up to 20 years. They can live anywhere between 15 to 23 years.

Now you know how committed to each other boobooks can be, you might understand the distress a carer would feel when they encounter one trapped inside a shop on a glue trap. It had been days before it was called in and only then because the callers children were upset by the sight.

At first the carer, who was brand new, thought there might be a chance to get the animal help.

This hope was soon dashed when the animal had to be euthanised with major injuries from trying to free itself from the glue. It was dehydrated and starving.

To make it even worse the rat he went to catch was ensnared on another part of the trap and lived for days with his predator watching every move.

Imagine how distressing this would be for both animals and the rescuer. This is not an isolated example of a horrific outcome as a result of glue traps.

Whilst this particular trap is not sold at Bunnings others which can do the same thing, are. This is why we are pushing so hard to get legislation to ban these and why we are asking Bunnings to stop selling ANY and ALL glue based trap.

No animal deserves to die this way.

All companies need to be responsible for the outcomes of the products they sell.

Bunnings cannot rely on an item being legal when the item by it’s very nature is innately cruel.

Please help keep up the pressure on Bunnings by sharing this post or by sharing our petition https://chng.it/RqCPTHFK4Q
