Bunnings Warehouse is proposing the closure of seven stores, it announced on Tuesday 12 May. The announcement comes after a "network review" and due to the "challenges of the recent trading environment".  Rangiora Bunnings is earmarked for closure, affecting 21 staff members and their families, and the Wakmakariri community of 63,000. .

Bunnings Rangiora is conveniently located in the heart of Rangiora, staffed with a knowledgeable, friendly, helpful team of employees, it will be sorely missed. I'm aware that Bunnings owns the property outright, so doesn't have to pay a lease. They've recently spent several thousands of dollars adding on a garden centre that has barely opened, for Bunnings to increase the store facilities and then close it without giving time to assess the difference in revenue makes no sense. I believe a town the size of Rangiora needs, and can support Bunnings as well as it's competitors and I urge Bunnings Corporate Head Office to review their decision, for the good of Rangiora residents and the welfare of the staff whose lives will be impacted severely at this already challenging time of economic hardship.

Petition, signatures and comments list will be sent to Bunnings Corporate Head Office on Thursday 21 May 2020.
