Building a Destination Skatepark in the Heart of Central Oregon

The Issue

Redmond, Oregon is the hub of Central Oregon. We’re home to the region’s airport and the Deschutes County Fairgrounds, making us a natural gathering point for locals and visitors alike. We’re perfectly positioned to serve skaters and families from all over — yet when it comes to safe, functional skateparks, Redmond is falling behind.

Bend has multiple skateparks to choose from. Prineville recently built a new park, and Sisters just expanded theirs with new additions. Meanwhile, Redmond has three existing “skateparks” — but let’s be real: one is just a pump track, another has two small features, and our main park is outdated and uninspiring. It’s no surprise most kids are just hanging out instead of skating.

It’s time for Redmond to catch up and invest in something better.

We’re calling for a modern, inclusive skatepark designed for all ability levels, one that can serve as a destination park—a place that draws in travelers, inspires events, and keeps locals active and engaged.

Here’s why this matters:

Skateparks keep people of all ages active
They build stronger communities
They support mental and physical health
They provide a safe space to skate
They attract visitors, boost our local economy, and support youth retention in the sport
They’re free, healthy outlets at a time when we need that most

Let’s build something we can be proud of. Something that brings people together and makes Redmond a place skaters want to be—not a place they pass through.
