Playing for the Plymouth Phoenix Ice Hockey team has been both a privilege and a challenge. The team, boasting over 40 registered players from across Devon and Cornwall, currently lacks a permanent home. Our love for the sport forces us to travel to Bristol for training and matches. This inconvenience extends beyond our team; numerous figure skaters also find themselves making the same long journey, all because Plymouth lacks a proper ice arena, which we were previously promised. 

Plymouth is home to a large ice and roller hockey community, not only in Plymouth but spread throughout Devon and Cornwall. This vibrant community, filled with passionate athletes and enthusiasts, was once promised a new rink. However, those promises have yet to materialize into reality.

Establishing a new ice arena in Plymouth would create immense opportunities. From recreational sports to armed forces use, to University and College sports and school visits, something which was popular at the old rink. Not to mention the development of talent in ice hockey and figure skating, this facility would serve as a vital space for youth sports development. The introduction of such an arena would not only serve the local community but also attract tourists from all over Devon and Cornwall and beyond, similar to the popularity of the temporary ice rinks in Plymouth observed during winter fairs in the city.

Ice sports are among the most watched in the world, their appeal stemming from the elegance and skill displayed. By building an ice arena in Plymouth, we offer a stage for this universal love and passion to flourish, with qualified skating and ice hockey coaches and referees already present in the City and the county.

A new arena would also provide the city with a number of new jobs, including to the local construction companies who would build the arena.
