Living in Gurgaon, India, is increasingly becoming a challenge due to the deplorable state of our roads and the utter lack of a proper sewer system. Every day, thousands of residents , students  including myself, navigate through chaos—dodging potholes and maneuvering around stagnant water. It strikes me with indignation and disappointment that while our nation's leaders, including the Prime Minister, boast about apotheosis-level infrastructure and world-class standards, the ground reality in places like Gurgaon tells a different story. 

Gurgaon, often dubbed as the 'Millennium City,' is better called the "Venice of India" home to numerous multinational corporations and is considered one of the financial and technological hubs of India . Yet, the city's infrastructure fails dramatically to reflect this stature. According to reports from the Ministry of Urban Development, a well-constructed road infrastructure should sustain a range of 20-25 Years. In Gurgaon, many roads are barely lasting a couple of years before they need significant repair. 

 Correspondingly, a survey by India’s Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation states that a large fraction of Indian urban areas still lack robust sewage management. This is evident in Gurgaon where poor sewage leads to roads being submerged during rains, making commuting perilous.

The craters on roads not only inconvenience everyday commuters but also pose severe safety hazards, accounting for numerous accidents annually.

The absence of reliable sewage management results in unchecked flooding that disrupts traffic and daily life. Not only is this problematic, but it also brings shame to our identity as a burgeoning global economy.

Here's a chance for the local government and municipal authorities to take substantial action and elevate Gurgaon to the grandeur it deserves. The proposed solutions are clear:

1. Immediate assessment and repair of existing potholes, followed by regular maintenance to extend road life span.

2. Implementation of a comprehensive sewer system that can efficiently handle rain and wastewater, preventing flooding and promoting public health.

3. Establishment of a consistent monitoring and evaluation system to ensure that new infrastructures are developed according to global standards and are maintained regularly.

4. Roads should be able to handle the amount of population density.

The need for a substantial infrastructure upgrade in Gurgaon is urgent and undeniable. While citizens continue to do their part, we now implore our leaders to play theirs by investing in the safety and future prosperity of Gurgaon. This is a call for accountability, action, and advancement.
