Build safe dirt jumps at Majors Bay Reserve

The issue

Growing up in the City of Canada Bay, cycling has always been a cherished pastime for me and many others in our community. The thrill of the ride, the wind rushing past, and the adrenaline of a good jump are experiences that define freedom and adventure. However, my enthusiasm and that of countless others is dampened by the current state of our biking facilities. Our existing pump track is in dire need of repair, and, most crucially, there are no adequate dirt jumps anywhere nearby.

This not only limits recreational activities but also discourages young riders from practicing and honing their skills in a safe environment. Dirt jumps are more than just mounds of earth; they are landmarks of community life and valuable assets for young people to channel their energy positively and healthily.

According to a recent local survey, 75% of residents aged 10-24 express a keen interest in dirt biking, moutain biking, activities. More so, areas with well-maintained biking facilities have seen a 30% decrease in youth-related vandalism and disorderly conduct, attributed to the establishment of these positive and engaging communal spaces.

The solution is clear and feasible: the City of Canada Bay Council should invest in constructing safe dirt jumps at Majors Bay Reserve. This initiative would not only transform the area into a vibrant recreational hub but also foster a sense of community and provide a secure zone for cycling enthusiasts. The investment required, as evident from similar projects in neighboring regions, can be covered under our local recreational development funds, ensuring it’s economically viable.

Through this petition, I'm urging the City of Canada Bay Council to listen to the voices of its constituents and prioritize the development of safe and structured dirt biking facilities. Help us cultivate an environment where passion meets safety.
