The Issue

For years, I've dreamt of being able to hop on my bicycle and take a ride from my home to the Broadview Heights Recreation Center.  While I could ride my bicycle on the road, it is a safety hazard that I shouldn't need to deal with. We shouldn't have to load our bikes into a car just to safely reach a trail that is less than a mile away. It's a simple wish, one that many of the residents of my community share. Yet, this dream is hindered by the absence of proper pedestrian infrastructure along Broadview Road, especially near the Macintosh Farms and New Hampton developments.

Why should you sign?

  • With traffic speeds reaching 35 MPH, the current lack of sidewalks is a tragedy waiting to happen.
  • The envisioned pedestrian pathways would not only serve recreational purposes but also facilitate access to public amenities, promote environmental consciousness, and potentially increase property values
  • It takes almost 10 minutes to the recreation center from car, that could be walking distance.
  • With close proximity to the Cleveland Metroparks, the area has the potential to become a vibrant, connected hub for recreational activities.
  • Currently, the lack of sidewalks and crosswalks inhibits safe passage to the beloved Valley Parkway, part of the Metroparks system.
  • According to the Federal Highway Administration, pedestrian safety can be significantly enhanced by providing adequate sidewalks and safe crossing opportunities.
  • We can connect the 2200+ residents of Macintosh Farms and the wider Broadview Heights community with the Cleveland Metroparks trail system, promoting health, well-being, and communal harmony.

The current sidewalk situation not only discourages walking and biking but also poses safety risks for those who dare to use the roadway on foot or on bikes.  As communities continue to grow, investing in pedestrian infrastructures becomes a critical step towards sustainable development.

Broadview Road, a crucial artery in Broadview Heights, Ohio, lacks the necessary sidewalks and safe crossings that are essential for pedestrians and cyclists alike. We urge Broadview Heights city planners, the mayor’s office, and local council members to recognize and act on this vital community need. Let's make Broadview Road pedestrian-friendly and provide our community with the safe, accessible pathways it deserves.

Please sign this petition to show your support for building sidewalks and crossings along Broadview Road, connecting Macintosh Farms and New Hampton to the Cleveland Metroparks, and making our community safer and more accessible for everyone.
