The Issue

As a recent resident to McMinn county, I have noticed that the availability of accessible high-speed internet infrastructure is limited in county jurisdiction. Our area is under a mile from the city limits and local service providers have stated no immediate intention to build up internet infrastructure for serviceability.

Service lines run partially down the road to a business industrial area but stop short of the residential area. Services are resumed by a different feed at the other end of the connecting road, but again do not feed through to the residential section. In speaking with both major providers, one offered for the customer to pay for a line to be installed at the neighborhood's expense, and the other provider doesn't offer a build-out request.

I am proposing the county seek accords with the cable, telco, or electric coop to assist in providing services that are utilized in daily life. This will assist underprivileged families with access to the tools and utilities of the modern technical world. Kids will be able to more easily have access to internet resources to learn, families and communities will be able to communicate and collaborate ideas, additional revenue would be made by companies.
