I’m a proud Veteran and current TSA employee working at Austin Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA). Engaging with the traveling public daily, I get asked if ABIA has a USO (United Service Organization), sadly I must tell them no. There are three major military installations within a 100-mile radius of ABIA. One of them being the largest Army base in the United States, Ft Cavazos (formally Ft Hood). Ft Cavazos is home to more than 34,500 Soldiers and Airmen and an additional 48,500 family members. Also, Texas is the second largest state with roughly 55,900 reserve service members, while Travis and Williamson counties boast the largest number of veterans. With that being said, the amount of military personnel traveling daily through ABIA is in the thousands. Austin, TX is one of fastest growing cities in the country and with ABIA’s current expansion plan now is the perfect time to open a USO on behalf of our troops!
