Good evening everyone, my name is Yolanda  Contreras and I live at 19486 Road 20, here in Madera. I’m a mother to 4 beautiful children & a grandmother to 1 gorgeous little girl.  I’m here today to speak on behalf of the Madera Splash Pad Project. We are a group of dedicated residents, professionals, parents & grandparents advocating for a safe and fun place for our Maderians children to play!

As you may know, they are several benefits of having a Splash Pad in our community. Safety, accountability, water conservation, to name a few.

Although, we are grateful for the several new parks in Madera. Shades and restrooms are essential in these parks. Unfortunately, the unhoused situation is nation wide.

Now… I want to ask a question

… How many of you (council members) have visited and utilized the parks any given day at noon?

It’s hot! 🥵. We all should know that because we all live here in Madera.  I have lived in Madera 40+ years, and since I can remember.  Madera has extreme temperatures!  We all live here, why not be mindful of those who are less fortunate to have an AC in their homes, for those that don’t have transportation, for those that don’t have the means to travel to nearby cities to enjoy a Splash Pad!

it’s sadden me to hear that Mayor Cece suggested us to continue going to nearby cities to utilize those splash pads.  Why not build one here in Madera. Surrounding city with way less pollution have one already.

I ask all of you Council Members to genuinely Be mindful and conscious when allocating funds for spaces here in Madera. Because when there’s a will, there’s a way.
