The Issue

Growing up in Franklin, PA, my husband, our three daughters, and I have always had a passion for skateboarding. As a family, we've found joy and excitement in skating, but despite our enthusiasm and the vibrant local community, there's a noticeable absence of a dedicated space for skaters, roller bladers, and scooter enthusiasts like us to practice and hone our craft.

Currently, Franklin offers a fantastic bike trail that winds through beautiful landscapes, offering a pleasant spot for cyclists. Yet, for individuals and families eager to push the boundaries of skate tricks or just enjoy a casual ride with obstacles, the absence of a skatepark means we are left wanting. A well-designed skatepark with various ramps, rails, and bowls could serve as a dynamic and inclusive gathering place for youth and adults alike.

Constructing a skatepark in Franklin would bring numerous benefits to our community. It would not only provide a safe and designated area for skaters to develop their skills and express themselves creatively but would also help in promoting physical activity and outdoor interaction among young people.

Moreover, skateparks have been proven to foster social connections, reduce juvenile delinquency, and attract tourism, all of which contribute positively to the local economy. According to the Tony Hawk Foundation, well-planned and expertly constructed skateparks enhance community well-being and become invaluable urban fixtures.

We believe the addition of a skatepark in Franklin will not only fulfill a need for existing skaters but, more importantly, will inspire future generations to take up skateboarding and other wheeled sports. This initiative aligns with our desire to see the next wave of talent emerge right here in Franklin, as many talented/pro skaters grew up not too far from here!

We're calling on the community leaders, local government, and residents to support this cause and make Franklin a place where every skater, roller blader, and scooter kid can thrive. Please join us in our efforts by signing this petition and bringing a skatepark to our beloved town. Your support will make a significant difference!
