In just the past year, multiple colleagues have been injured after being struck by cars while crossing the employee crosswalk between the parking lot and the hospital at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. This crosswalk is not just a safety hazard for employees; it also compromises patient care when valued staff are sidelined by injuries, especially during critical shift change periods. As healthcare professionals, we are committed to caring for others, but our safety should be assured as we walk into work. 

The concern is straightforward: Protect those who protect others. With the bustling traffic around the medical center, pedestrian safety has become increasingly compromised. Creating an alternative passage such as a bridge or tunnel would not only reduce potential accidents, but would also improve the efficiency of foot traffic, reducing delays and confusion at shift changes.
