The Issue

A joint cadet centre would benefit both cadet forces, allowing for both to have greatly improved training facilities without having to pay for two entirely new buildings. Making this plan much more feasible and likely to benefit our youth.

The Army Cadet detachment in Kettering currently operates out of a school pavilion, a space that falls short of the necessary facilities required for training. It is disheartening to see dedicated cadets strive to learn and grow in an environment that does not meet their needs. Additionally, the RAF Air Cadet building is outdated and too small to accommodate new cadets. This puts a cap on recruitment, as new cadets have to wait for senior members to leave or 'age out' before they can join.

Kettering's young cadets deserve a suitable environment to train, develop skills, and foster a sense of community and belonging. A new joint cadet centre could fulfill these needs and enhance the cadet experience for both Air and Army divisions. This facility would not only help in training the leaders of tomorrow but also boost morale and provide a safe, well-equipped location to conduct diverse cadet activities.

Statistics show that structured youth programs like those offered by cadet forces have profound impacts on young people, such as increased self-confidence, leadership skills, and community involvement. Investing in a new centre is investing in the future of our youth and, by extension, our community.

We propose a modern, comprehensive building that allows ample space for classroom training, practical, outdoor training, drill hall & outside space for drill, aswell as equipment storage. It would also include classrooms.

An example would be the Wellingborough Joint Cadet Centre, used by Mannock Sqn & Wellingborough ACF Detachment, with split floors for the different forces.

This new facility can be a partnership effort between local councils, the Ministry of Defence, and community stakeholders, ensuring that the needs of our cadets are met without placing undue financial strain on any single entity. Collaborative efforts have shown success in other regions, and there is no reason Kettering can't achieve the same.

Join us in supporting this essential development for our youth. Help us provide the facilities they deserve by signing this petition. Let's give Kettering's cadets a place where they can thrive and reach their full potential. Your support is crucial to make this vision a reality.
