Build a modern skatepark in Taos
The Issue
Our existing skatepark in Taos has seen better days—it’s in horrendous condition, and it’s time for change. Skateparks are not just about skateboarding; they are essential venues for fostering community spirit and offering a positive outlet for individuals of all ages. Taos and its surrounding communities deserve a modern, safe, and welcoming skatepark that can cater to everyone, especially beginners and patrons looking for a fun, inclusive environment. All ages of people skateboard and can benefit from a nice skatepark.
A well-designed skatepark can significantly improve the mental health and well-being of our community members, providing a free or at least affordable recreational outlet that encourages physical activity, creativity, and social interaction. It's more than just concrete; it’s a hub for skaters, bicyclists, and even families to gather and connect. Modern skateparks have the versatility to accommodate rollerbladers, BMX riders, and skateboarders alike, making them a vibrant part of their neighborhoods.
The benefits of upgrading our skatepark extend beyond recreation. According to the Tony Hawk Foundation, well-executed skateparks can reduce youth crime rates by keeping kids engaged in productive activities and can serve as a landmark for local tourism, boosting the community’s economic prospects. Additionally, our proposed new skatepark would be designed with up-to-date safety standards, minimizing injury risks and making it accessible to all skill levels.
By investing in a new skatepark, we uplift our community, demonstrating our commitment to providing inclusive and supportive environments where individuals can learn, collaborate, and thrive.
We need your support to make this vision a reality. Let’s work together to show that the people of Taos and surrounding areas stand united for a renovated skatepark that reflects our community’s values and aspirations.
Please sign this petition to urge local authorities and stakeholders to prioritize the construction of a new skatepark in Taos.
Our current skate park has literally saved my life growing up in Taos, I have seen many of my friends and peers fall into addiction and/ or depression just because we don’t have the outlets to build upon or skills and express them with a community of like minded people. Taos is a small community but there are many people of all ages and ethnicities that would benefit enormously from having a usable skatepark in town. This would be a a big step in addressing mental health and wellbeing in Taos. Please help show the town the this is sorely needed for Taos.
